Would also apply to the F250 with the 7.3L diesel. Anyone have one? Positives? Negatives? Mileage? Driving style? Location/type of driving? Things to watch out for? Any info is appreciated. |

Not sure if they salt the roads down there, but the oil pans rot out on the 7.3s fairly easily. It's a pretty big job to replace it as well.
But if the truck isn't from a rust belt state, just make sure the front end is tight (these trucks go through ball joints pretty fast) and make sure it isn't leaking anything. The 7.3s tend to leak coolant from the thermostat housing at the front left of the engine. Also, I'm starting to see a lot of them leak from the front axle seals - this is another labor-intensive job as the differential carrier has to come out. Other than that, just make sure the transmission fluid looks ok. Those things last forever, just like the trucks. |

Quoted: 2002 Ford Excursion 7.3 Diesel 4x4. 191,000 Miles. Florida truck. Replaced the CPS at 50,000. Filter drain valve at 190,000 miles. Oil and filter changes, that is all. 16 MPG We love this truck. 16mpg? That's decent, are you an urban/suburban "aggressive driver"? Or just a highway meanderer? |

We did more highway driving in the beginnng. Now mostly commute to Jax and back (20 miles) stop and go. Wife has a lead foot. |

Ok thanks alot Shivan and Coldair. GF was looking over my shoulder and saw that. We have been wanting an Excursion for the additional room. So now it has become a critical mission to locate one. I hate buying one off Evilbay. I bought my Bronco off of there, but the deal was not finalized till I saw it in person. |

Look down in the engine valley for pooled oil, this would indicate a leak at the turbo pedistal, or possibly the HPOP.
Also pick up a spare CPS CAm Position Sensor and throw it in the glove box.. If yours has the old black sensor, KEEP IT!!!! The new gray sensors that ford is puting into the trucks is causing the number 8 injector to fail contribution tests... this makes for an odd sounding idle. |
