If you were looking for your first bike would you go for it?

If you're tall enough. A 250 or 350 would be a better choice but you'll probably want to upgrade shortly.

Did you take a MSF class? Any riding experience, dirt bikes etc..?

$3500 seems a little high, but not outrageous. If it's set up the way you want it, then go for it.

I just bought a 2005 KLR650 with 4500 miles, the same seat and trunk for $2950.

Prices vary by region on used dual sport bikes and $3500 may be in line in your area.  It looks like a nice bike with some good accessories, if you have shopped around and like the bike go for it.

Ask him if the doohicky has been replaced.  Any KLR owner should know what you are talking about.  If it hasn't, that would be a good negotiation point.  Make sure you do it if you buy the bike.

Kolor by Krylon Fusion paint. There are 3 like this in SE MI. Mine has 17,000 miles on it. I took the wind screen off for better wind protection if that makes any sense.
