We have some punk kids running around town shooting out car windows w/bb guns. Well looks like last night was my turn. My 2005 chevy trailblazer got hit on the rear driver side quarter pannel window. I know how to replace glass that sits on tracks and rolls up and down. But I am looking over this thing and I cannot figure out how to replace a fixed window. I called around and the shops want 300-400 to replace it. I figured I would find one at a junkyard and do it myself. Any ideas on how to do this. I can't find it online and clymers manual is no help.

I'm not sure what the deal is on that Blazer, but I know if its anything like a windshield..where the glass sits in a pocket which is filled with a rubbery adhesive on the sides, get a peice of piano wire or a guitar string about a foot long, attach a peice of wood at each end and stick the wire between the body of the truck and the window through the rubber crap, and use the wire like a saw , might take two people on each side, get a replacement window and clean everything up, go to a autoparts store and buy this:   http://www.technologylk.com/product/987/CRL-3M-Automotive-Bedding-and-Glazing-Sealant/2695/3M8509/CRL-3M-Automotive-Bedding-and-Glazing-Sealant-3M8509.htm?src=froogle
Or just ask for "window weld" or windshield weld..whatever they will know, and put the new window in with enough window weld to hold it in, i've done it once or twice.

Wow 300 to 400?   Did you call shops that will put in NEW glass or did you call boneyards?

I had a boneyard put mine in, although much older car, 1992.  Total including install was about $80.

It's done just like a windshield...gotta cut the urethane.  Why not have the insurance take care of it?

My windshield cost me about $110 a month or so back when it failed inspection.

My time is worth a lot more than $110, figuring the 87 hours and busted knuckles and cussing that would be going on.

I am checking the bone yards in the morning. All the shops in the phone book will only do new ones. Not sure if our boneyards will do the replacement but if I can get the glass there I think I can get her in. My current window spiderwebed clean out. So if the boneyard can take thiers out for me it should go in easy.

I do all my mechanical vehicle repairs but I don't do glass.  The tools, materials, and skill are specialized; and the last thing I want is a leak after doing the job.

Update: Found glass at a boneyard in New York and it should be here by friday for $100 shipped. I may call around to see if someone else can install it because of the post above. will see when I get it if I want to tackle it.

Got the glass. Looks like I can change it pretty easy. Just be liberal for the first time. With the adhesive that is. I will try and tackle it on Saturday and will post up some picks of the progress.
