Took these shots today of a 2003 SV650S (drinking the kool-aid), it's not in great shape. It got dropped on the right side, so the rearview mirror and rear break peg are broken off (the lever's still there so he's been using that.....i hope), and the fairing on the headlight and turn signal are cracked. I'm wondering if the rust is an issue, though. Lowball or run away? I'm on the coast, so rust is sort of expected, but I'm worried about the forks.

Taken looking down through the handlebars at the forks:

And some other pics:

Well, for the right price its probably worth buying.  That price would probably be pretty low though...

He's asking 4400, market/kbb/motorcycle consumer news for a clean one is 3600, I'm thinking 3k at most if I wanted it.

I was thinking 2K at most.... You should be able to find a clean specimen for over 3K.

How much would it cost for you to fix???  I have a new '07 that I bought with 0.1 miles on it for just over 5k.

Looks like it's be sitting out in the rain for the past few years.  But it does look like it has a LeoVince Hi-mount on it.

WAY too high. $2000 tops. That thing looks like it is a flood salvage, does it have a clear title? If you buy it, call the DMV with the VIN number, just because they hand you a clean title doesn't mean it is not an old copy they are giving you, ask me how I know.

If you are in or near Orlando, check out cflriders.com they are a pretty good group of local guys that are not squids, and a lot of them have SV650 track bikes.

Gotcha, thx. Actually, I'm down in Texas now. Not a huge rider community in Corpus Christi.

I would not give more than $500 for it.

All of that external visable rust means that there's a lot more rust and corrosion in places you can't see.

Expensive rust and corrosion.

+1. If he didn't take care of it to the point of letting it rust that badly, who knows what else is hiding in there?

My 2000 SV650 that was ridden all season even during the salty Ohio winters by the previous owner doesn't look 1/100th as bad as that SV.

Roger, looks like it's run, run, far away.

That rust is scary, especially the rust on the welds.  I would not buy any bike that had been dropped without having the shop evaluate it for damage you may not be able to see easily.

Where in FL are you?  Here's one from CL in the Tampa area.

+5 (My 1st bike before I got my VFR & RC51...lots of fun and great in a turn).  that one looks uncared for with all that rust plus the price is too high! You can get rust (i should say corrosion... most freak out when they see rust and start spraying it with something)  on some parts of your bike no matter what you do due to road salt in the winter time etc.. and inferior metal parts etc..and some of that can be removed with a simple shot of WD-40 .  For a few more 100 bucks you can get a brand new one and that bike is worth much less than what he is asking: I'd pass and keep looking for a cleaner one.....should be easy to find too

I'd say that guy kept that bike out side and mostly had it uncovered.

Have a good motocyle mechanic look it over.  They can see things you will miss.

Always look at the frame for any cracking or buckling.  Paint or coatings will flake off next to welds if they are bent.  See if the front wheel is in line with the rear with the handlebars centered.

If the bike has sat non-running for a while it will probably need the carburetors cleaned(assuming it has them)

Here ya go:

columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/796963403.html

Just one of many on Craigslist around the country for less than that turd....you could buy one in better shape and afford to travel & pick it up or have it shipped for under what nutjob seller wants for the rustbucket.
