It will still be a Ford right?

yep, that's a teksid block :)

dropping about 100 lbs off the nose and adding a forged crank, h beam rods, and diamond forged pistons :)

should stand up to some major abuse!

So... You are building an engine that wasn't cast in the 60s?  It must be nice.    Whats the build?

going into my 01 mustang GT with a vortech V2SQ at around 12 psi.  I'm adding a snow performance kit along with mac longtube headers and crower stage 2 blower cams.  I was at 400 rwhp before and expecting around 500 with a conservative tune.

it is a 4.6 liter block bored .020 over with a 18cc dish for near stock compression.  I'll be dropping the size of the blower pulley a bit and have upgraded the fuel system with an 03 cobra fuel tank and pumps along with 60 lb/hr fuel injectors.

I also am going with a TKO 500 tranny and FRPP aluminum driveshaft to get the power to the wheels

That oil pump pickup screen looks kind of small.  Is that ok for this engine?  I'm not a hot rod engine builder so I'm curious.

Does the engine need a high volume pump?  Are you going to run an external engine oil cooler?  I have seen inside turbocharged engines that had an oil jet to spray the bottom of the piston.  This was supposed to cool the piston under the crown so it wouldn't get too hot under boost.

it has the cobra oil pump, that's higher volume then the GT pump.  It should be more then sufficient.

That's a lot of boost for that engine. Will be interesting to see it run.  Straight line racing I take it?

Pitty this is not an AWD mustang, that would be real good in the winter then. Not sure what your current winter package entails, but with that much horsepower and real wheel drive, it will definitely make the ride interesting.

This engine will hold up to quite a bit more boost actually.  It has the forged pistons, rods, and crank that the GT didn't.  It is also an aluminum block so I'm dropping 80 lbs off the nose.  I drive my truck in the winter but I'll take rwd over awd any day just for the fun factor.  I drag race it some but I'd like to try a bit of autoX as well.

Some pictures after a bit of prep work.  I'll be getting the head gaskets in a few days hopefully and things should go together pretty quickly after that

made some good progress tonight.

I got the head gaskets today so I bolted the heads on and attached the cam sprockets (cams were already on the heads)

time to start putting on the timing set!.  I had marked it in some spots with a sharpie so re-installed it to those marks using some of my original chain guides and some that were sent along with the engine

Then it was on to play with degreeing the cams.  I put the degree wheel and pointer on and found TDC using a wooden dowel and dial gauge.  I do believe I might have lost TDC trying to turn it backwards (loosened the bolt)  I'll see if I can fix that before I get back to degreeing the cams.

Then I stuck the valve covers on to keep stuff clean and put the bag back over it before putting it to bed for the night

I worked on it some more today, degreed the cams and found that the driver side was off by a link.  It took a while to get that right but I finally got it.  My solid lifter decided to compress when I tried to put the rocker on so I did it with a bled hydraulic lifter to be sure I'm in the ballpark.

then I found that there were some ribs on the timing cover that wanted to co-exist in the same space as one of the chain guides so I had to do some trimming on the cover before bolting it on, I think that the timing cover seal will have to be replaced though as the one the shop put on looks different then the one I have.  But it does also look like the seal that was on this timing cover originally so maybe it will work.  Anyway, here are a few pictures:
