[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Engine block thread repair

Hello,

My friend is doing a complete overhaul of his Chevy engine and its in need of many new 7/16 threads.

I checked the prices for helicoil and twinsert repair kits and they was way to expensive here in Sweden, it must be other cheaper alternatives to repair the threads.

He want to drill an oversize hole and then tap it and put in a new thread, The original 7/16 bolts he want to keep.

Anyone who can recommend something?

The only thing to use for head and main cap bolts are Timeserts. They are expensive, but they work. It's time to bite the bullet, there is no other way other than some insert to repair threads and not go oversize.

Timeserts are WAY better than helicoils. Been a real job saver over the years.

Maybe cheaper to buy the inserts from US, Here in sweden 100pcs of twinsert for 7/16 cost 1100 USD

Helicoils suck. They often come out with the bolt after one use.
