What are you guys paying?   My friends accords went out and the dealer want's $1,200.  He shopped around and found a place that will do it for $800.   That still seems like a hell of a lot to me?

Well, since its an accord and front wheel drive,  they have to drop the transmission from the car, but a new clutch in it, machine the flywheel, check the input shaft/replace said input, and the pilot bearing.

So, in other words, it's no small task and IMO, $800 is a helluva deal, just make sure that they are a good reputable shop with good techs and a good record with the Better Buisness Bureau.  you can check that online.

I think that even 800 may be a little high, but not to bad. I figure its no more than 200 for a clutch kit (includes pressure plate, disk, and pilot bushing/bearing) and would take about 6 to 7 hours to change. To get the flywheel machined would be another 50 the only other expense would be fluid to refill the trans.

Depending on shop rate total would be around 600

But Remember, price is secondary to quality worksmanship, especially on a job like this.

$800 is a good price if the shop uses either oem or LUK clutchs, if memory serves me right 'retail' on a good clutch set is $250-300, last one I did took about 5 hours floor to floor, make sure to allow for rebooting axles or axle shafts if the car has over 100k. this can add another $200-300 hundred to the job.
