Gay looking mini SUV for yuppies and soccer moms,  or possibly one of coolest offroad vehicles with a little bit of modification.   Discuss.

Weird interior and horrible visibility...

Otherwise, knock yourself out...

I freaking love my FJ. I traded in a Tacoma for it and i would not get rid of it for a million dollars. Its a very capable vehicle. It's very roomy inside. Great gas mileage for what it is. It's very responsive as well. There will be a snorkel out this year for too.

The one above does look good, but you gotta paint the rest of the body and roof black.  Would look great then.

I did like them when they first came out because they were different.  Seems like a simple interior that's easy to clean, and I liked the suicide doors.  The body style grew away from me and if it came down to it I'd probably pick up a Tacoma over the FJ.  The FJ is still a great vehicle as far as the guts, but she's got a butter face.

Did see an ad on TV where they were selling new left overs for a tad over $23K.  Tough price to beat now a days.

I like them.  I had a chance to test drive one a couple of weeks ago.  The biggest issues I saw would be a lack of visibility when backing up--you have to use the mirrors.  Also, the FJ is designed to run on premium gas--it will run fine on regular though.

Right now it's a toss up between a 4 door Tacoma or the FJ.

I have had mine for maybe a month now and love it. I originally wanted a new 4 door jeep wrangler put the prices were not going down. got a good deal on a 07 FJ.

I got the same voodo blue color as above (because that was the only 07) and it's ok. wanted silver though but would rather save a few grand for the 07 (they don't even offer the blue in the midwest for 08- go to toyota's web site and put a wisconsin zip and build your own and then put cali and you will see different color options)

love the interior as it is easy to clean thought it had a bad blind spot with that large piler behind the back seat then realized that the side mirrors are fricking HUGE and take care of that.

I just hate that I want to mod it but don't have the money at the moment

as to backing up it comes with the back up sonar too!

and toyota put out a bulletin to that it can use regular gas

What is up with the stories about the bodies of FJ Cruisers developing cracks when used hard offroad?

Yeah that is something I read.  And about half of the stories they claim they haven't done any off-roading.  Either way it is bothersome.

Cool vehicle.  Not nearly as tough/reliable/capable as the older Tacoma /4runners though.

I'd rather spend the same money to build up a used FZJ80.

Just get a 4 Runner.  Same platform and mechanicals but with decent visibility and rear seat access.

Aim4MyHead, what's with the wheels and tires?  You buy an ARB but no wheels/tires/lift? What's the plan for the future?

Those aren't factory tires,it has a 3" lift and I like the steel wheels too.

I drove a friend's FJ for a couple hours today, and I really like it.. I'm seriously considering getting one instead of a Tacoma.

A couple of concerns, though: How long did it take to get used to the size/corners of the vehicle? I can't park the thing worth a damn. Also, does removing the spare tire improve visibility at all?

I had the same issue when I test drove one.  I've driven full size 4WD trucks and HMMWVs all my life, I'm currently driving a 3/4 ton 4x4 Dodge, I almost had the salesman get out to make sure I would mis a curb.  Turns out I was at least 3 feet away from it.

I personally don't think the spare will hurt visibility too much.  The side mirrors are the primary mirrors on the FJ.  Plus, I would hate to move the spare and have the original mount left in place--ugly.  You could, however, move it to the roof rack easily.

Right now I'm busy flipping coins to see what I like better the FJ or Tacoma.  I'm leaning towards the FJ, but it will have the parking sonar if I get one.

If I get one, I'll most likely get it without the rack, and without the mount, for aesthetics more than visibilty. You're right about the side mirrors, I was able to angle the passenger side down enough to see the curb, and still had full view off that side.

My only other beef was with the way the power came in from the engine.. the tranny seemed really mushy. I may try and find one with a manual trans to drive, by way of comparison.
