I just installed one in my 97 tahoe.  Works as advertised w/ little to no noise. I do hear a slight clunk if i go around a real tight turn, but it is very slight.

Crawled right up an embankment last night in 2wd. NEVER could have done that w/ out 4wd & even then it would be a crapshoot w/ the open differential.

I got tired of my wife & her mitsubishi montero sport kicking my ass in our snow covered DRIVWAY in the winter. Best $450 I've spent on a vehicle.

So far the experience has been good, anyone else install one of these?

I AM exited I finally have 4WD, (well 3wd but it's better than 2.)

I run one on the rear of my XJ. Been there for 8 years. Works great. Every now and then when doing a hard turn it makes a big bang.

Put one in the front of my TJ, works great. Didn't have enough for another Detroit so I did the lunchbox locker, all ya gotta do is replace your spider gears w/ the unit & your done.

The rear end is a Dana 35. The past 3 years it has been mostly used off-road.

I wanna do an Aussie locker in my dana 30 for my next mod. It doesn't look very hard, but I gotta pull the axles shafts.

Really? Have one in a Dana 60 (109" LWB tho) Noisy - yep. Squirrelly no. Might be due to WB - might be due to most of the trucks Ive driven have been Lincoln'd.

Once I get the SWB 90" on the road might be different - hope I wont regret going non-selectable on the rear.

I hope not. That would be a terrible reflection of these forums.

Not that I entirely disagree - but theres a good deal of wheat in the chaff - and thats posted around here often.

What exactly make Pirate so objectionable? I could see a number.

Run one for about 6 years now, no issues but I also run full synthetic gear also. They are pretty tight til they wear in a bit but that takes a short time and they do a pretty good job for a lunchbox locker.

Huh, didnt realize that you could use syn? Guess with LB designs its not an issue.

Eaton/Trachtech doesnt recommend syn for the Detroit - not that I used syn on my trail trucks anyway. Fluids get changed too often.

Thats probably it, once you get use to something you wont even notice compensating for it.

When you use that locker for the first time in winter dont use too much gas, just take it slow.

Probably right. Dont drive much in snow - when I do its in a LC - selectable lockers.

I've been running one in my Silverado.  People say the lunch box lockers are junk but, mine has been great.  I wheel the truck atleast once a week and it's been great.  After being around drag racing for awhile now, I've gone back to good'ol dino oil in differentials that see any kind of abuse. I run 80/90 wieght with the Powertrax and it's super smooth, quiet, and engages quick. :)
