Hi guys, I'm not good with cars, other than some of the components names.  I know my A/C compressor is making a ticking noise when it decides to come on.  Kinda like maybe the belt is slipping just a split second.  It makes the same noise when it shuts down.  What could be making the noise?  Can it be fixed without buying a new compressor?  It still blows cold air, should I just ignor the noise until it stops working? (that doesn't sound like a good idea to me...lol)

By the way, it's a 2000 chevy silverado v6.

Thanks!

ETA:  It sounds like the pulley is making the noise, when the clutch engages and disengages (center of pulley starts spinning, then stops), if that helps out any...

It just ticks when it turns on and off? That is probably just the electric clutch for the compressor engaging and disengaging. Nothing to worry about.

Most of them tick a little.  but mine is ticking loud enough I can hear it when going down the road with my window rolled down.  It sounds like a rock hitting under my truck, instead of the muffled little tick it used to make...

Most likely a bad reed valve in the compressor.

It'll probably just keep getting worse.  I forsee a new compressor in your future...

Why would the reed valve make a click only when the compressor is first engaged and not again until it disengages? Reed valve noise should be constant while the compressor is operating. My money is still on the compressor clutch.
