Hello folks. I got 2 JBL 12" power series subs in a ported enclosure in my durango being pushed by a JBL 2200.1 amp. Last night one of my subs was making a rattling noise with the volume turned down low. So I turned it off and decided to check it in the morning when I could see what I was doing. This morning I pulled it out of the box and checked the speaker and all the wiring. Speaker has no visible physical damage and all wires are tight. The speakers are wired in series and the other one works just fine. So I know power is being sent to it. What could this be? any help would be appreciated, Thanks Michael

Blown voice coil?  I blew a VC in one of my Fosgate HE2s.  had to replace it.  at least it was still under warranty and didn't cost me anything.  good luck.

Sometimes an airleak in the box will sound like rattling.

Try hooking the speaker up free ait (not in the box) and playing it at very low volumes.  If it makes the strange noise/rattle then it is the subwoofer.  If not it is probably the enclosure.

Yep check for air leaks. It needs to be totally sealed except for the port.

It was the voice coils. LOL they picked it up and shook it and you could hear it rattling around inside there. Me and the owners kicked around a couple ideas while I was up there and Im going to put 3 soundstream t-4 15" subs in about a 12 cubic foot ported box. The amp I got pushes around 2400 watts RMS at a 3 ohm load. Which 3 15" subs would make it a 3 ohm load. Should be a bad mofo.
