I was thinking about getting a short shift kit for my 03 Civic because I don't like the how long the shift are. I'm not trying to make my car fast or anything like that. Does anyone have one on there car? How easy is it to install? Do I need any special tools? B&M This is the one I was thinking about getting. Thank You for you input Cody |
first off, 03 civic or 03 Si? HUGE difference in time and parts. for either install you shouldnt need anything besides whats in a 99 dollar craftman set and a couple screw drivers.(a couple sockets, and maybe a set of needle nose pliers. it isnt hard) if its an Si, then you will need to spend a little more time. and if its an si, stay away from the B&M kit or the neuspeed kit(reg civic is ok). one thing is, you may wish to look into a DC sports short shifter(i think its a little cheaper) neuspeed also makes one one common problem when people switch to a shrot throw is a "notchiness" during shifts and some people i know(my girlfriend specificly) keeps mis-shifting, though she as improved. oh, and not to discourage you, i had a short throw shifter on every car ive owned. the last 3 being ae86 corollas, but the car before that was an 02 civic Si(ep3). now if you happen to have an Si, the only kit worth buying is the buddy club setup... but its substantially more than the neuspeed or b&m kit, as it replaces the whole assembly under the dash. |
Thanks for the advice. Its just a plain 03 Civic. I know B&M will work with my stock boot and shifter nob but im not sure about the neuspeed. neuspeed are cheaper then B&M. Cody |

b&m is better overall quality, but ealisticly, its just a hunk of metal... i would use the B&M in a race car where absolute speed over normal use is important. in a non raced street car, i would buy the neuspeed or DC shifter personally. no reason to have a product that will proform to 150% when your only gonna use it to 80%(if that makes sense.) and honestly im not a huge fan of either nuespeed or dc sports... good products, but they are becomming the midranged APC.... but for a hunk of aluminum, ill get the product that cost 85 bux vs a part thats 200 and is only marginally better. my short throw kits i buy now are actually made from the stock shifter... just cut down and bent a little to change the fulcrum point. built like a frieght train. |
