Nice ride. Not quite enough get up and go but it'll do well offroading. My one complaint is the windows. Goddamn the windows are SMALL. No visibility. Otherwise, I no complaints. Oh, and make sure the people you get opinions from have actually DRIVEN one. Otherwise you'll get 900 "Its sucks! It blows! Its gay!" responses from people who probably havent even SEEN one, let alone driven it. |

Saw one, sat in it, didn't test-drive it (I was at the dealership waiting on a state inspection and decided to wander around the showroom). Not terribly impressed by the looks, but it does look better than the H2. Inside seemed ok, can't make any comments about the ride though. Tiny windows. Rather crappy visibility even sitting in the showroom. Personally I wouldn't buy one. But I don't particularly have anything against them either. |

The H2 and H3 will easily get stuck. They used a Jeep Grand Cherokee to tow out a H2 stuck in sand. For off-roading, go with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or Jeep Grand Cherokee with modifications to get it to Rubicon level 5 or 6 or whatever. The military HMMWVs aren't as good off-roading as most of the civilian modified off-roading vehicles. The new Hummer H1 Alpha has a 6.6L Duramax V8 diesel making 300 hp and 520 ft-lb of torque with a 5-speed auto Allison transmission. |
The H3 isn't even adequate. The Cherokee is no muscle car, but it still has enough power to pull out into traffic well. |

It's not about having a drag racing H3. The I5 they use in the Colorados or Trailblazers (i forget) is NOT enough to move that pile of junk. I don't care what anyone says, you need a decent amount of power and acceleration to be effective at driving with all the idiots on the road. IMO, I thing the H3 looks a lot better than the H2. That's about as far as I can go with it. I still think they're fugly. |
my thoughts exactly......and there is only one REAL Hummer...the rest of them are beafed up Tahoes that they slap the Hummer name on and sell to morons who will pay for em so they can say "I drive a Hummer" Market it however you want, but the bottom line is...the H2 and H3 are for yuppy jerkoffs that cant afford an H1 but still want to say they drive a Hummer. Does anyone know where that video is of the stupid ass kid in the H2 trying to go offroad...and ends up snapping his A-Arm and his front tire basically falling off?? H2/H3 = POS.

Colorado's use the I5. The I6 is used in the TB's. |
Can you add a BOTD to the title. I was not ready for that. |

I have seen a couple of H3s in action off road and they seem to do all right. They have a decently short wheel base, and ground clearence, both of which are important off road, they also have an electric locker in the rear, which is better than a LOT of other Ford or GMC products. They crawl ratio is decent about 60 I think which is a lot better than any other stock vehicle on the market less the Jeep Rubicon. For the price its not a bad vehicle, for what it was designed to do its a great vehicle, and it would be a good platform to start building an excellent off roader. If somebody wants a mall queen, a minivan is cheaper and has as much or more room, if you want to get off the beaten path and your family is smaller then the H3 might be for you. While I give props to the H1 with its planetary gears and 37sh inch big tires, not many people are going to throw down 100K for a daily driver. Its also LOT wider than you would want to drive off orad on trails like the Rubicon or Moab rim trails. Even out at Fort Hood where I did a little off roading, I followed a Humvee back into the brush, and the guy basically plowed a path for my Tacoma. Yeah you could do it, but a smaller vehicle would do it easier, saving a whole bunch of paint in the process. Space?????? The drive line, diffs sit tucked up in the cab. IMO the H2 is the mall runner of the bunch, from what I have seen they don't have the running gear under them for reliable stock off roading, the tie rods and the frame/ steering box don't seem to stand up to regular routine stock off roading. |
Amen to that. (I have an H1 in my garage, but it's my sister's. She lets me drive it weekly to exercise it. |

If you want to look "cool" thats one thing. I've seen them "pimped" out w/ stereo's and whatnot. Chances are you'll never see a new H2 or H3 covered in mud...or with scratches from brush on the sides... You can usually tell who does serious offroading, and who just drives over grass. lol. But w/e, your money not mine. |
If I decide to pick one up next year when I dump the Rainier, I'll be sure to post pics of it muddy, scratched and with a deer strapped to the hood. |
