List of the things to fix on both vehicles. 1 indicates priority (to get it running), 2 less pressing but needed, 3 a nice to do thing. Now that I've gotten the bank wire transfer sorted out A fresh new batch of rebuild kits for the all 4 wheel stations are coming. Short story is I wired 1000$ last Monday and after checking in every day with the seller (in Poland) he still hadn't gotten it. I was told this guy was reliable, super smart, and spoke 4/5 languages. I had just consigned myself that I lost 1000$ dollars and maybe sticking to stolen Russian .mil stuff was easier. Attached File New Fuel pickup tubes are ready. 250$. Once I get the OD of the SS tubes I will simply add a fuel mesh sock on the end and call it a day. I'm hoping it just press fits on An update since it's been a bit (probably 4-6 months) since I've touched it. Reasons? Finances, work (20-40 hours of overtime weekly) and military stuff. I have all the parts to complete the vehicle and put it back together EXCEPT the little fuel mesh filters at the end. Right now North Texas is going through a bit of a winter storm so it might be another week or two until I get on it.  |

Honestly, I'm at the lowest point with this f'ing project. I set everything up. Get the parts. Hire a guy. One gasket is bad which will take me weeks to source and the fuel tanks need to be cleaned. Right now I want to push it off into a lake. The whole front end is apart and I was hoping it would be back together by the end of the week. That's not happening. Going off on a ground up rebuild was a mistake. From now on I'm only focusing on single issues and NOT looking to make it perfect. Same thing with the Roland. Don't go trying to make it perfect-enjoy it as it is and fix the minor stuff. |

Good news, I'm ready to put the front left wheel station back together. Bad news, was cleaning up the axle spacer plates and one of the pieces got caught on the nylon wire wheel and did it's best SpaceX imitation and flew at mach 10 into my hand, splitting a finger open and folding the metal like a taco. Attached File Attached File Attached File It's toast. I ordered all these parts to fix it. Attached File We tried starting the BRDM last week. Not getting fuel. I have new fuel pickup tubes but I'm not sure it's getting fuel past that. I have a 24v electric fuel pump I will hookup to a boat fuel tank to see about getting it running. |

Faded Sun, such a great project, I am with you and the many others that look forward to the traveling part. Can’t say enough how cool it is to spend the time to post pics and take us for the journey. Today I looked back at the beginning, and the first drive. It was inspiring! The difference in OP’s standards for repair, obviously putting things back “good as new” as much as possible, compared to the military fleet service history is pretty clear. Restorations seem to be a huge suck of time and resources. The difficult balancing act between a quality repair and complete refurbishment is definitely complicated by being military and euro and eastern bloc. Hang in there OP you have a lot of fans exited for you and your successes. |
