2000 explorer V8 throwing intermittent p0171 and p0174 codes. Cleaned MAF sensor, seemed to quiet things down a bit. Did it again this week and now I also get a p1507, IAC error.  So I'm gonna replace the IAC, it's original with 260k miles.

1. Should I replace MAF at the same time?

2. Do I need to completely reset the PCM? Or will it readjust from possible bad values to correct ones?  If I do need to reset, is there a procedure somewhere?

Dave

p.s. - Intermittent codes makes me lean towards an electrical/sensor issue, am I off base there?

P0171 and P0174 usually mean an air leak on the engine side of the MAF.

I don't work on Ford's all that often, but I think they had problems with the IAC, and wnadering, loping idle. Needed to be cleaned out. I think.

Hope that helps.

Not sure about exploder but on f150's of that era, usually pcv plumbing problems, cracked hard hoses .  Although can also be intake manifold.

Leave maf alone, they are easy to break and rarely fail on their own.

I second checking the PVC fitting. Its common for them to crack and cause a vacuum leak.

The IACs of that era aren't very good. Sometimes cleaning it will take care of it. You will need to reset the Keep Alive Memory or it will most likely idle very high for a while after replacing it. I either use a scan tool or fords IDS. I honestly don't know if there's another way it can be done.

As everyone suggested, check all vacuum lines and fittings first. These things get old and brittle with age.
