I had my automatic transmission replaced in my 2006 Chevy Silverado. When I got it back (after close of business), it was extremely difficult to move the column-mounted gear stick between park, neutral, drive, etc. There was almost no detent between the gears. To top it off, I discovered that it would not manually shift down into 2 or 1. Third gear was as low as it would go.

I took it back this morning and asked how it got out of the shop in that condition. The manager had no response, but said they would "move it to the front of the line and make it right."

Anyone have any idea what's wrong or what they screwed up?

Probably messed up the linkage.  Sounds like something is binding.  Should be a quick fix.

You were right, quick fix. They called and said the tech installed a bracket upside down, which binded the gear shift lever cable.

Bent linkage will do it.  If it touches the trans, the whine of the gears will amplify through your steering column.  Been there...........

After driving home, I discovered it's still not 100%. The doors are supposed to unlock when I put it in park. Now it's not sensing park unless it rolls a bit. I park in my sloped driveway and engage the emergency brake before I let my foot off the brake. No roll, no doors unlocking.

Maybe you just need to rest do the auto unlock setting. It could have been reset back to factory default when the battery was unhooked or when the ecm was reset.

I replaced a valve body gasket on my first ranger and screwed up the reassembly, exactly how yours was. Some googlefu showed me how to fix my mistake, but I thought I screwed it up permanently. lol
