I got a shit ton of updates. I'll go over there in a little bit and take pics. Heat and a/c is in, more work to brakes, radiator, oil cooler, fenders and doors. Dash is still in progress.

Fender brackets got cleaned up and powder coated:

Eta nevermind, the guys that own the shop are going home due to weather. I'll get pics later probably next week

Got the rear end set up right (I think) and driveshaft finally came in.

Dude's still working on the dash... and we need a nose as the one he has is made of shit and fail. I'm pushing him again to go with a stock 74 but he's still wanting a 70-73. But the rest of the car is about to be driveable so we are gonna fire it up and Dyno tune it this month. The pace has slowed for sure but there's still progress. More later...

The problem with a 70-73 nose is that rear isn't going to match.  That's why so many go with 77 -78 noses with their 75 and 76's

The 74-75 noses are really growing on me since I got mine, but I do love the 70-73

Yeah I know, and it's a surprising amount of work to graft a 70-73 rear on to one. I have an 80 with a 73 nose but mostly due to a giant tree that fell on the 73 and I had a busted up front end on the 80 so I worked with what I had. The vast majority of people don't know the difference though so eh.

For me, the holy grail 2nd gen TA would be a 74 with a 77 nose as you get the bandit without the ugly later rear window that ruined the fastback look of the 1/4 panel.

Funny thing is the original black and gold TA show car was a 72-73 that Pontiac grafted on the 74-76 parts including the rear window to make a show car out of it based on the JP racing colors of black and gold, it then morphed into the 76 special edition TA and the rest was history.

No, the 70-73 tail panel area is completely different than the 74-78 as the tail lights are much bigger on a 74+ than a 73.

Yeah if you have two to compare side by side they are very different.

There's a big move going on, including moving the car and all related stuff so no forward progress yet. And the dash guy didn't work out. Bummer.

Great thread, great car.

A good friend had a 77 in High School.  Trans Am.  It was a cool car.  Had the shaker hood.  The then traded it plus money for a really mint 87 Mustang GT.

I was a Chevy guy in high school and the Pontiac stuff always had me stumped.  I assumed wrongly that a lot of stuff, like the engine would be the same as in a Camaro.  But those pontiac engines are just so different.   LOL.  Those heads though......  they look weird to me.  But anything that wasn't a small block chevy looked weird to me.  It always blew my mind that I think some of the Ford engines had the distributor on the FRONT!  No way..   That's a Ford, eh?  Now I forget.  LOL.

Beautiful car though.  I think resto mods are the smart way to go if it's not an all numbers matching or mainly stock car.  I mean the new stuff is just so much better.  This thing is super great.

Your car is beautiful.  And is it me or did you change the one thing I didn't care for with some of the Firebird / TA's.  Seems like some of the stock ones sat lower in the back. Especially the Formula 400's. Yours is like, horizontally equal.  Which I think is really nice.

Thanks.  It's dropped front and back, full Hotchkis suspension setup.   It's lowww. The 2nd gen cars were actually designed to look low in the back, like a speedboat taking off.  Or so I've read and heard...

Yeah, and then under acceleration they look even more so.  A few years ago I was watching the Rockford Files and his car is totally like that.  At least to my recollection.  To me it's kind of an odd set up.  Like I'd rather see better over the front of my hood while driving.

I’m glad you posted, I’m about to pull the trigger on a hotchkiss kit to lower a bit. Mine’s considerably lighter in the nose than factory so it has a noticeable rake and I hate it. I’m thinking the two inch in the front and stock height in the rear might just even it out, and if not maybe drop spindles as I really want a big brake kit up front anyway. I dunno those are my thoughts. These may need to remain longer term goals as I have other shit to pay for at the moment.

Also yes that car is boner inducing

I had a 76 455 4 speed in high school. I really don't miss it because I spent more time wrenching on it than than driving it, it was a northern car with lots of problems though.

I really want a 79 TA with a Olds 403/Auto  T-Top Silver Anniversary because of 4 wheel disc brakes and interior.

Thanks for the pics.
