I would like to temporarily swap the wheels and tires from my FJ Cruiser to my 4Runner.  The FJ has Michelin LTX M/S2 tires on it, which were a good fit for me when I bought them as I was doing a lot of highway driving with it.  The 4Runner is now my trip vehicle and it will need new tires next spring. I am considering buying new, more aggressive tread profile tires for the FJ, and putting the LTX tires from the FJ (which still have about 40k miles left on them) on the 4Runner.

My concern is the TPMS system.  I want to swap the wheels and drive the 4Runner around with the LTX tires to see if I like the way it drives, but that will obviously trigger the TPMS warning light.  I want to know if once I am done with my evaluation will the TPMS system go back to normal and recognize the wheels once I swap them back to their respective vehicles.

Once the sensors are back on the computer should recognize them and turn off the light.

Yes, when the original wheels are back in range, the TPMS error will clear.

Most any tire shop will have a reader that can acquire the TPMS IDs of the sensors while installed in the wheel/tire and can re-program the Toyota TPMS system with new IDs.
