Funny you mention your daughter as I have a daughter who is also 3 years away from driving and this project has made her want to start looking for something for us to put together for her! Figure it is win/win since I get to help build it with her and she will learn how to do her own work on cars which is a nice skill to have! |
Pic of the damage that was fixed on the hardtop. Fiberglass patched and then body filler to smooth it out then it was painted.
And the headliner is all done. Bad pic but you get the idea. 
Goals this week are to get a leaf pulled out of the front to level it out some and also to make somd ground cables for the motor since it has none and I think that is the problem it has starting sometimes. |
| @Forest I think the cowl will be a spring time project. Eventually it will get done but for now I’m enjoying it being back on the road. I also need to paint 2 of the hinges for the ambulance doors since I forgot until I went to put them back on. They are caterpillar yellow for now and do not match at all hahaha. |

My kids use it far more than my dogs but I will keep an eye out for how they do on it. So a while back I found a slightly beat up jerry can and decided it needed to be on my 40 somehow and after looking at options i decided to go this route since my door is far from pristine. Before. 
Smittybilt mount, some isolators and we’re good to go. 
Also had to rotate my handle up but that was easy enough. 
Made the license plate bracket out of an old street sign. 
Door rattles a bit. I think i need a new striker. This one is 40 years old and shows it. 
Overall I’m very happy with how it turned out. |
Old fuel pump died 2 days before cruiserfest so we had to take my Dad’s cruiser to that instead. Found what I can tell is the closest replacement for what was on there and it just arrived. So that needs to go in this week. Considered switching over to a mechanical pump but the engine mount is in the way so had to stick with the electric one.

Some minor updates on this.
Added a hilift to it. made a mount to put it by the drivers door. 
And then decided to add an external intake filter. Which involved some cutting. 
Just need to plumb it back to the intake and it should be good to go. Plan for this year is to finish the intake, add some cup holders to my ammo can arm rest and swap tires over to some bfg's I got for free. Oh and drive it as much as I can before starting me next project car. |

Fj40's have great market support, you can buy pretty much anything for them online. The big downside of them is the entry price now. The market on them has gone crazy but there are still good deals out there if you can be quick to act. My next projects are a 1959 cj5 for my daughter and a 1961 beetle for my self. Both were decently affordable to get into and parts are easily found for them. 
Im hoping to finish the intake on the 40 soon and get it ready for the warmer weather that will hopefully be here soon. Very much over the cold! |

Long over due update. Cruiserfest 2019 is rapidly approaching and i would really like to drive this turd there this year. So started by getting a winch finally put on. Warn 8274 that matches the condition of the rest of the vehicle.
Also ordered some more paint to finish the spots that could use some love and the rest of the stuff to finish my intake should be here tomorrow! I will update this up until I finally get to take this thing to cruiserfest! |

The plan with the 35’s was to make room for it to be drivable. Since I have a stock 40 already i dont mind chopping this one some since its more restomod at this point already. Drawing out the plan. 
Then start chopping. We cut the lip off and will reuse it to keep the quarter panels strength and look intact. 
Lips stripped of paint. Waiting for some love. 
Decided to flex it out a bit and make sure we cut enough out. This will never be a rock crawler just more of a desert driver and mall crawler. So looks like plenty to me. 
Stretched out the lips and mocked them up. This keeps that factory rounded look in the wheel well.  And welded in. Body work and paint on this side then on to the other!!

Update: Decided to drive my 40 to a 4x4 cars and coffee event in the mountains. This is the farthest drive it has ever attempted and went mostly well. I do know now some stuff that needs to be changed and luckily I didn't burn it to the ground. 5 minutes into the drive i realized the battery wasn't holding a charge. Luckily my dad was able to bring me a good battery.  Heading up the canyon   Made it to the cars and coffee barely. At the top of the canyon it was not happy. Barely would idle and ran like crap, at the time i wasn't sure what it was but as i went down the other side it ran better and made it. In some good company  After when i was about to hed back over the mountain. Parked to cool down, midway and heber utah in the background   Barely made it to the top. Stopped to let it cool off and once i shut it off i could hear the fuel in the tank was boiling, apparently the muffler under the floorboard got so hot the tank started to boil. That was a pucker moment, fuel was steaming out of the carb and luckily nothing caught fire. After that i decided i was done and threw in the towel. Called my brother to grab my truck and trailer and come rescue me. Not a bad place to break down though.    All loaded up and stopped in Park City to check straps and get something to eat.  Was a fun adventure and I can't wait to get some stuff sorted and try it again. |
