| SO, I finally broke down and bought a bike a couple of weeks ago, It's nothing special (Suzuki S40). Been out riding it a lot, getting comfortable with the bike, and being on the street. I have a Torch helmet, but I hate it. I really like the open face, but the torch just fits weird, and pushes my head forward. Any other recommendations that I could try? |

Look at the diagram again.still want an open face?
Helmets are all different.even within brands. Some Arai are oval, some round. A medium in bell sucks, medium Shoei is awesome. Only way to know is try them on. Then walk around for 10 minutes wearing it. Now, look at the diagrams again. My personal experience proves that picture. |

The good news is there's never been a better time to buy....even the mid-level brands are really making great lids...HJC, Scorpion, etc. all make great stuff, and then there's the Shoei, Arai, etc. Try 'em on and see what grabs ya. Really your $$ is only buying comfort/features, they're all really safe with regards to impact nowadays. |

Helmet fit is a personal thing, you can't go off of recommendations. A good fitting bottom line HJC is better than an ill-fitting top line Arai. Go to a local shop with a good selection and start wearing their display models around the store for a while. 10 minutes minimum. Fit should be tight on your head that you can't move the helmet around without moving your head with it, but shouldn't be too tight in that it causes painful spots. Buy the helmet there. Sure, you could go online and buy the same one for a bit less, but when everyone does that, there will be no local store with inventory for you to figure out what fits. I've retired a lot of helmets due to use. The vast majority of them have rashed chin and shield areas. I would skip the helmet entirely instead of wearing an open face helmet. |

I agree with this......helmet is about fit, not price, nor style. Sadly the best fitting helmet for me is a Schuberth....I like my $200 Scorpion :D |

Fit is important. I've always had an "Arai head" although a Shoei is not far off. The Schuberth fits me almost as well as an Arai, but the chinbar is closer. And the weird thing is I'm XXL on most things (The Vanson in the picture is a size 54, and the Held gloves are size 11) but I'm an Arai and Scuberth large. I could probably go XL on the Scuberth and fiddle with the padding to get more room in the chin area (Schuberth XL has a larger shell size) although it's not a big deal. |

I ride with a $140 HJC, a $180 Icon mesh jacket, and some gloves. I really need to find another helmet...problem is, my head is so big, there are only a few helmets in town that fit. A couple of them are the same HJC, or newer version, which I don't want (I hate the HJC face shields. The hinge mechanism is junk. It hangs up, which rocks the helmet on my head, messing up my sunglasses. A few times, It has even popped of the helmet, forcing me to pull over and put it back together with my pocket knife |
| Are you wanting a retro helmet or something to go with the vibe of your bike I am assuming given you chose an open face. Like others said, open face is a bad idea as far as I am concerned. They do make plenty of retro or cruiser inspired full face helmets now OP. Bell, Biltwell, Nexx, and Trophy all make them. |
