The beginning of the video is around the valve cover and then is moved to underneath the engine.

The "tapping" noise is prevalent at idle in park and then during light acceleration from a stop. Sounds pretty much like a tapping rocker arm, but underneath the engine.

Will be doing a cylinder balance test tomorrow to see if it goes away.

It's hard to tell from the video sound, but the rod knocks I've heard are a lot more pronounced.

ETA: Under the car it sounds like an exhaust leak on the video.

I don't recall hearing "rod knock" in person, but my impression is that when it occurs, it's pretty loud.

This "knock", you don't hear it until you get underneath.

It also doesn't seem to have that hissing noise that an exhaust leak has.

Going to try two things to see if I can eliminate one or the other.

1st will be letting it idle and having someone kind of plug the tail pipe.

2nd will be a cylinder balance test.

The other thing will be to look at the flywheel and bolts, but I doubt that anything with that is the cause.

Leaking exhaust manifolds don't usually hiss.

Good luck.

Just got home from work. Same noise up until warm up pretty much and then the video attached is just after getting home.

Could very well be exhaust related.

Don't think it's rod knock if my thinking is correct.

Think I'll still try the balance test to see if the sound goes away from a cold start.

If you have a timing light you can connect it to each cylinder and see if the noise is in synch with the lights strobe. An automotive stethoscope would help too.

early rod knock can be pretty light . What kind of car and what engine ? What is all of the whine ?

The engine is a transplant from a 1993 firebird.

I don't  think that's  rod knock. The car I just got rid of had pretty bad rod knock. This isn't my video but it's a good example  of what rod knock sounds like. My car was worse than this one.https://youtu.be/Gz4myEP42ps

Rod knock can be pretty mild. . I have seen them go 1 day knocking or go 3+ months
