Tough winter, but my 15 year old new holland TN75 has been a champ.  Until the other morning.  Went to warn it up and right away I sensed a problem.  A lot of white smoke and it didn't go away as it warmed, so I shut it down.  Tried again awhile ago as it was a bit warmer, 17 degrees.  Same thing. Lots of smoke and as it warmed up the smoke didn't get any better.

Upon closer examination it was also spitting oil out of the exhaust.  I shut it down to check the oil and when I opened the cap a lot of pressure was released, with a bit of oil.  Never seen that before.  Oil was down just a bit, nothing too unusual.

Oil drops all over me and the tractor.  Runs fine despite the clouds of smoke

I'm thinking the checkbook is about to take a hit.  What am I looking at? Rings? turbo?

That was indeed it!  I made my way out to the tractor this morning, of course in a snow storm.  When else are you broken down?  I had it outside because the smoking would be too intense to run inside.  One look at a nice dip in the crank case vent hose and I knew it could be it.

So these New Hollands have Iveco diesel engines that the Italians somehow seem to like to fully paint AFTER they are assembled.  Then they are dropped into the tractor.  So it of course makes for a fun experience to remove painted over clamps and hoses.  Clamps that are now blocked by something and paint glues it all together.

Once I got the crank case vent hose out of the tractor I was able to thawed it and get a big chunk of ice to fall out.

Tractor fired up and quickly burned off the remaining oil.   Just in time too, I've already plowed about 8" of snow off 1/4 mile of road and hauled a stuck van up a hill.

Thanks Paul!  Much appreciated.

No problem.
Glad you got it figured out.

P.S. If it was you, thank you very much.

That's what I love about this place! Every time I have a problem I come here and other people know exactly what it is.
ETA: BTW, I had my own tractor problem the other day. Left my AC 5040 outside for a while. Mind you it has a 90 degree on top of the stack. I tried to start it...... hydro lock checked oil, way to full and milky. Drained it and had about 2 gallons of water on the bottum. Made me sick..
I was going to pull the injectors, but my dad suggested letting it site a while so the water can seep out of the cylinders. 3 days later it started right up. (fresh oil added first)
