I have a 04 Ram with the Hemi engine. Are there real benefits of getting a programmer for it? I have been looking at the Superchips Flashpaq. I don't expect crazy results but I do tow/haul quite a bit and have been looking to clean up the shift points, which I hear this does.
Anyone have any input? |

You would be surprised what a good tuner can do on even a totally stock rig. If you go with the DiabloSport products you can get custom tunes as well as the pre-programmed tunes. Just have to do your research and find a good tuner. |

| No need to go with a custom tune over a generic tune if the vehicle is stock. There won't be a significant difference except when you tell people who tuned your vehicle. I had a superchips tune on my G8, made a hell of a difference, especially the tranny tuning. The car was otherwise stock. I took it off when I had to take the vehicle to the dealership for something. |

The difference with a custom tune is that the tuner is looking at that vehicles baseline readings and then making the appropriate adjustments to get the most out of that specific vehicle. Every vehicle has it''s own unique characteristics and a custom tune will see these and adjust for them, a canned tune will not. As much of a difference you felt with the superchips, you would have even felt more with a custom tune, and for not much more in $. |
| I am all for a custom tune and unfortunately I didn't learn about this until after I bought my Superchips CORTEX tuner. With that being said, I felt and saw a noticeable difference with the 91 octane performance tune in my '06 Chevy 1500 4x4. But it really came to life when I added an intake, headers, and full exhaust. My truck has a 6" lift and 35" tires and I was able to see MPG increase and noticeable, felt increase in throttle response and power. It really came to life when I re-geared the truck. IF any or all of these modification are in your future, do them, and seek out someone in your area that can custom tune for what you do with your vehicle. I am happy enough with what the CORTEX does for me that I decided not to go the custom tune route after the fact. I tow a heavy boat and a big trailer and the ability for me to change to the towing tune has served me well. |
