I have a 77 Ford F150.. I want to wire up a pushbutton ignition with a hidden kill switch. Problem is most of these still require you to have a keyed ignition wired in and key turned to use them. I assume this is to have the 12v "acc" position still??

What I want is a three switch solution. First switch is the kill switch (hidden), Second switch corresponds to the first position on keyed ignition (before the "start"), and then the push button (momentary switch) to start the vehicle.

I've googled a bunch and can't find what I want, and I'm terrible and drawing up wiring diagrams and having them WORK.

Anyone help a brother out?

You can do it with a kill switch and button starter. Wire the ground from the battery to the kill switch then ground it, when switch is off battery wont ground. Wire the hot side with the accessory stuff and run a wire from it to the start button, then on the second pole of the start button to the starter. Switch off you get nothing, switch on you get accessory, switch on and starter button you get engine start. I use this on my jeep, works good.

So just a DPDT switch then? I will be wiring up my cigarette lighter as the pushbutton - push it in and car starts, and nobody would think to look at it if trying to steal my truck.. and you can take the lighter with you.

ETA: I feel like a relay should be involved in the circuit somewhere... and my old man agrees with that, but have no idea how to wire that up.

It kind of depends what rout you want to take. Think of the big switch i posted as the kill only. If you wire it inline with your battery you get no juice anywhere when off, when on you would have juice, and if your stock key is still in the truck it would work as normal.

Now lets say you wire in the kill switch as above. Now you take everything off the accessory pole from your stock switch and put it on the hot pole of the kill switch when the kill switch is on you have juice for lights radio etc, but when its flipped to off, everything is off, even the clock on your radio, if you have one.

Now you can choose how to start the truck, wired as above your stock key would only work to start the truck if the kill switch is on. Or you can replace the stock key with a button. The kill switch is the kill and accessory, and the button would act as the start position of the key, the springy vroom setting.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need any more help.
