Just bought a suzuki intruder 1400.  Bike is a 96 and in pretty good shape.  The only issue I can find is the thing at the front of the frame that keeps the forks/handle bars from turning to far left or right is rusted and looks chewed up.  I can't for the life of my remember what it's called.
I'm going to mask it off and paint it with some rust inhibitor, but is this something that can be replaced or would I need someone to weld a new piece in if it fails?

Ill try to get a pic tomorrow when the sun is out.

Turn stop or steering stop?

It essentially establishes the point of steering lock.

It could be mangled if the bike was put down and the owner tried to bend the stop back into place. It is usually welded to the frame.  If so, look at the frame to see if there is any damage or scrapes that could indicate a prior accident.  Often times if that is bent or damaged an insurance company would consider the bike totalled or salvaged.  It isn't an ideal situation.

I hope this is what you were looking for.

Sounds like teh steering stop, or teh steering lock.  The lock one should ahve some wear, leading to rust if you new owner don't use it, if the previous owners used it.
