I am having issues with my 2004 Tahoe.  When it starts the red light on the 4wd switch stays on.  The truck seems to drive fine.  What are the chances that it is justhe switch vs the motor on the transfer case?

Thanks

When you first turn on the ignition do the other indicator lights come on but then the switch goes to red(neutral) indication? Some more details would help but it's unlikely that the switch is the problem. Usually it's the encoder ring in the transfer case motor, very common problem with that era tahoe/yukon/silverado/suburban. The good news is it's easy to change and you can get a new one for about $50.

Same thing happened to mine.  2004 Tahoe.

Replaced the encoder sensor, available from Rock Auto, and all was well.

Some places will try to sell you the entire motor assembly, but usually the sensor ring is all that is needed.
