I have discovered wetting the workpiece with water greatly speeds power wire brush rust removal. If you are using air tools, this is without hazard.

I believe the water softens the rust. Plus it keeps the dust down. Also prevents overheating the work.

I use water when sanding to create a slurry which makes for great sanding.
