I got a 98 Honda Fourtrax 300 2wd for very cheap. It ran rough and smoked. When I say cheap, under $500. I got it running smooth and cranking easily by rebuilding and cleaning the carb. It's still smoking. I check the compression and it shows 120PSI. Book says 178 to 205 is normal. Obviously rings or valves are bad with the low compression plus the smoking. Top end job, no big deal. The smoke is more white than blue but it isn't water cooled. It has a burned oil smell kinda.

Now I notice today it has oil running down the rear right side frame tube and puddling on the ground. I noticed oil on the rear shock, on the rear brake drum and on the inside(ATV side) of the muffler. The inside of the muffler is coated and wet with oil. Now I know the compression is low and obviously rings are bad. But I have never seen something with actual oil, especially this much, making it past the rings and into the exhaust. The smoke is awful. It seems like a lot for the cylinder to only be 50ish lbs low. Any ideas on what would cause the oil like that? My dirt bike/ATV experience has strictly been 2 stroke. So I'm a little miffed at the raw oil like that.

I'm gonna wet check the compression Sunday to check the valves. I'm hoping I can get away with just honing, new rings and valve seals or at most punching the cylinder a little.

Oil ring is shot along with compression ring on piston. Most people have compression ring go out first, but in your case all the rings are fubar.

Well I suppose Sunday I'll start tearing it down to see whether I can hone it re ring or have the cylinder punched out.
