Check engine light is on - running a little rough - took it to Autozone they couldn't pull code said it might be the fuse to the OBD
Looked up on the net and they say lighter and obd use same fuse - there is power to lighter cause I had phone pluged into it charging could that 'block' signal to OBD reader? Is the Autozone guy running the reader wrong? Zombies? Pie? |

It's gonna go Glock on ya, DUCK! Some cars have trouble with cell chargers, but if its running rough there may be a problem. Not everything will throw a code if the sensors are getting readings within limits. quack? he doesn't get any reading from the OBD at all |

If there's a light on, there's a code. Take it somewhere that has certified technitions that know what they're talking about.
Auto zone employee's are pretty much morons. They know how to look up numbers and find boxes on a shelf. One of them actually suggested i ONLY change the filter on my car and add oil as it needs it. Since the filter is the only thing that gets dirty or used up.

V8? I will bet that you actually do have a code, and it's either P0171 or P0174 (Lean Condition, Bank 1 or Bank 2). This is a result of the rubber fitting that connects the PCV system to the back of the manifold perishing. That means that the engine is drawing too much air right into the manifold, causing a lean condition. Open the hood with the engine running and listen for a sucking noise waaaaaaaaay back by the firewall. Find the PCV tubing (it's about 1/4" rigid black plastic) and follow it past a couple of Y-junctions to the back of the intake manifold. There's a 90° elbow right at the connection. The back of that elbow tends to melt, leaving a hole. Be careful, it's hot back there. ETA: ODB codes? Word! |

The cigar lighter fuse needs replaced before the scanner will read the codes. Very common on Ford pickup trucks. May be the wire to the ALDL connector and not necissarily the fuse.
ETA-Autozone can usually give you the codes and sell you a part that they say will fix it...Unfortunately for you, they don't have a clue IF or WHY that part is bad. Fortunately for them...they sold you a part you generally can't return. |
