So the check engine light came on recently.....good ol manual says if it could be bad gas or something serious......I've gone through a 2 full tanks and the gas is good..

my ignorant thinking is the Oxygen sensor or catalytic converter(if it is one of these, how much $$$ am I looking at?). Anyone have similar issues? It's 12 yrs old with 148k miles on it. Money pit..nooooooooooooo

the CEL will throw a code that is stored in the computer. go to a oriellys or autozone and ask them to read it for you.

My wife's '98 5.0 Explorer with ~150K miles on it has been a good vehicle - replaced the radiator, alternator, lock acuator.

Ask them to give the actual code, not just the description.

Google the code to see what it means, and what's required to fix it.
