It's not for everyone, but if you can do / afford the maintenance and don't mind standing out in a crowd,

go for it!

Do your research here: http://humvee.net/

Here is the one I sold recently:

I miss it badly, but circumstances were such that it had  to find a  new home.

If you don't mind, what year was it, and how much did it go for?

Someday...

1998 HMC4 owner here.

You really need to do a lot of research before pulling the trigger on one of these.  Well, unless you are very wealthy and have the means to pay for higher than average maintenance costs.

As mentioned before check out humvee.net.  Also check out flashoffroad.com and explore around there.  One last site is Lynch HUMMER's website.  They have a great year-by-year change breakdown, to help you narrow down what year you want.

Figure out what year and model you want first, then look for that.   It's not practical to conver a body style ie buy an open top with the expection that you'll convert it to hard top or wagon later.  It will be very costly.

I can write more later, but please, take your time with this purchase.  There is a lot to research before buying one of these.

1997.  Find out if it is a 1997 or a 1997.5 (only year a half year was designated).  The biggest change between a 1997 and a 1997.5 is the HVAC being a servicable unit.  Read up on that on Lynch HUMMER's site (click on the 1997 model year changes––the VIN is the only definitive way to know; but if it was a straight 1997 but they updated the HVAC that's good).  Also, a turbo diesel model from 1997 puts it right between 1996 and late 2000 models which were prone to engine failure.  You'll want to find out whether or not the engine has been replaced by the updated block.  You can read about that as well.

The brushguard is really supposed to come with these trucks, they don't always come with a winch though.  You'll want to make sure the winch is operational though, if you consider this purchase.
