How does track insurance work?  Recommendations on companies that offer it?  If you've had a claim, did they pay?  How do they evaluate price of car? Policy cost?  etc etc....

I don't know about cages (4-wheelers, cars, man) but my insurance company covers accidents which occur when you are "attending a motorcycle safety class" and since the track is rented by a safety instruction team for our track days, I'm covered.

You may be able to work a similar angle.

Most of the regular auto policies don't cover timed events.  Most of the events I attend current aren't timed except autox, but really not much danger of damage.  I want to do some TT or HPDE events next year and since they are timed it wouldn't be covered.

I was told not to bother, by an owner of an insurance company.  Said they still won't pay the claim and he runs insurance free in his Lambo.

NASA HDPE ('cept maybe 4 - transponders?, If so I don't think they're recorded) and most other "track day" events arent timed. TT and wheel-to-wheel, you need specialty carrier. I've never bothered. Key-on insurance is pretty much cost-ineffective (and as above pretty arbitrary on pay out). If you cant afford to wreck your ride - don't race. Liability is strictly yours once on the track - even if some bone head crushes you. Well you can go the civil route...
Buy a cheaper dedicated "race car"  Stuff it full of safety gear - the good stuff.

ETA Something like this works and isnt stupid expensive.

Its cheaper than on track insurance. Find a good coach. Have fun.

You are correct/same with mine...times aren't posted, there is not winner, etc. but lap times are logged for instructional purposes.
