I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but does anyone have any experience with Travelers Insurance?  I'm buying my first home (yay) and I'm shopping around for homeowners insurance.  So far my only experience has been with my parent's insurance (State Farm) and they were great.  But they are also a bit more expensive.  Of course, I'll take service over cost any day, especially with something like insurance.  But if I can save some money and still get good service, I'm all for it.  Anyhoo, please share your experiences as a Travelers Insurance customer.  I'm open to any advice on other companies as well.  Thanks in advance.

travelers here for home/auto.  Been very happy with them, and they have the lowest prices for me.  Wish they wrote motorcycles though - I might have to switch to state farm to get car/bike discount.    Anyhow.... +1 for travelers

I've got Travelers insurance on a commercial building I own and they've been just fine, however, I've never had a claim. I did have some trouble with their online payment system several times. I pay my bill monthly online and they draft the money from my checking acct. I had confirmation numbers and the debits on my bank acct. and Travelers sent me a letter saying they were canceling my policy for non-payment. It took several phone calls and a few hours for them to get it all worked out but they made it all right and apologized for the inconvenience. It was really just some sort of computer/accounting error on their part. No big deal though, it could happen with any company.

When I was in the construction industry, I had a couple run-ins with their adjusters and they were complete idiots.  However, I am not positive if they were independent adjusters working for them during a storm or if they were actual company employees.  For full disclosure, I am currently an insurance agent and will stay unbiased to give you some things to consder.  Here a couple questions to ask to make sure you wont get screwed.  They might be cheaper but there might also be a very shady reason for it.

Are you getting full replacement coverage?  (very important because you dont want them depreciating your house before they pay your claim)
Are the coverages the same?
Are they still cheaper when you compare the discounts you'll get on your auto insurance?
Are the "perils" (things you'll be covered against like hail, vandalism, wind) the same?  In my state, there are 3 different levels of coverage.  I know State Farm only sells the highest but I dont know about Travelers.  You could find yourself having a loss that is not covered and that would suck.
Check the endorsements (optional coverages) to make sure they are the same.

I hope this helps.
