| On the suggestion of Ar-jedi and others, I have been looking into Vanguards VWO fund. I cannot add this fund directly to my IRA, but they do offer Emerging Markets Stock Index fund (VEIEX) which I believe is based on VWO. I am a little confused on how to go about this, looks like Vanguard has a set amount of funds that one can use for the Roth IRA. |
please make sure you understand what you are buying, and that it is a long term investment. (= disclaimer
i'm perplexed by why you would not be able to do so. explain? is your Vanguard IRA not also a brokerage account? or would that be an extra fee per year which you would rather not pay to hold just a single ETF?
VWO is VEIEX, and vice versa (and also the same as VEMAX, for Vanguard's "Admiral" class investors, >1MM assets). the way Vanguard constructs their mutual funds allows for easy "containerization" into an equivalent ETF.
i don't know all of the in's and out's of Vanguard's IRA's but in this case you can buy either VEIEX or VWO, and over the long term you'll get the same result to a couple of decimal places. ar-jedi |

Ar-jedi, Thanks for the info. I have researched VWO after you recommended that I look at it and ran it through Morning Star's Xray to see the effects on my portfolio (domestic/foreign, expense ratio, etc). I also researched the BRIC idea and how it could affect my investment strategy. In regards to Vanguard, I can only add specific funds to my IRA. I will double check to see if I need to add or change something on my account. Thanks for the help. |
Who is your account with? You are aware, are you not, that you're free to move your Roth IRA from one institution to another? |
