Not sure if this is the correct forum section or not, but I'll give it a shot.  I currently own an online website that I'd like to turn into an LLC (or a dba for the LLC I create).  I plan to provide media production and therefore have equipment expenses, typical business expenses, etc. that I'll need to keep track of.

With that said, if you have created an LLC, what route did you go?  Did you find a local lawyer to set it up for you?  Did you do it yourself?  Or did you use some website like Legalzoom.com to set it up for you?

My first 2 businesses i just did on the state and federal websites. Took 1.5 hours and 30 dollars maybe.

After that we had more complex details and other people involved so we went through a lawyer. We were mainly worried about someone in the company dying (triggering a buyout) or getting divorced (triggering a buyout).

I also wanted to clarify that this is a sole proprietorship.

Did it myself. Went to the state corp commish.and copied others who had paid someon to do it pretty simple. AZ has a look-up feature where I could search out others who were similar to me and copied how they did it.

In VA it's a one page form, and can be done all onlinein all of 15 minutes, tops.  They really just want their $50/year.  Of course the County then wants their business license fee (percentage of gross profit) and business property tax.  Same with Federal EIN.. all online, and easy to do (or as easier than most anything to do with the IRS).

If you need a lawyer or one of those third party "services" for those forms, you should rethink starting a business, because you aren't smart enough.  It's really straight forward.  I suspect OH is similar.
