I hate AFN because...
- Every PAO spot is cheery and roses. - Sexual harrassment PSAs. Yeah yeah, I know AFN is great because it brings TV to far flung places for a realtive low cost. But this is just my deployment bitching... |

Its a lot better then it was in 96 when i lived in Italy. But yes it does suck. At least the sports channel is decent, although the commander thinks he owns the TV. whenever he walks in he changes the channel to some soap operas or nightline.... We joke that the only sport he watches is tandem male figure skating.
The Commericals are horrible. And the one with the dude rapping at the DMV/Tag place just makes the day worse. |

They should be able to give ComCast, TimeWarner, or DirecTV a contract to provide *real*, unaltered TV.... With real commercials.... |
| Im not much of a fan of AFN but they didn't do too bad in Korea when I was there in 07-08. The played some good movies on a cold winters weekend. Their commercials were fucked but they got the point across. Toward the end of my tour they even understood their commercials were stupid and offered to let people make their own commercials. Always remember, don't shake your baby. |

Coincidentally when he spoke we observed that the stocks went down, and when he hadn't spoken for a day or so the stocks went up. Since one of my buddies is into the stock market we paid close attention to this "phenomenon". Can you guess who? |

When I deployed to Kirkuk / FOB Warrior last year as the AFN repair guy, I'd swear all of you liars absolutely loved the shit! My shop received more trouble tickets from the Army than the Air Force regarding AFN. Like 5 to 1! PVT Snuffy: "My picture's fuzzy!" Me: "Did you consider pointing your antenna towards the base TV antenna like the way these 30 other AFN antennas are pointed?" PVT Snuffy: "Wow. Really?" PVT Snuffy could have been MSG Snuffy.  Don't even get me started on 1 BCT / 10th Mountain Division and their fucking thievery of AF-funded AFN equipment.  Next time I deploy, I hope to do TCN escort duty, as I will gain the same amount of experience related to my AFSC. |

The lunch/breakfast ladies all love their soaps... So that's what's on for lunch/breakfast... Yep, you have a bunch of Army guys eating... But the little Korean ladies won't let the channel go off of General Hospital.... Dinner, we had MSNBC or ESPN unless someone asked for Fox... Again, contract staff liked MSNBC... 'Official' TVs were all always Fox, CNN, or ESPN... |

| I did a short tour in Germany in 200, and AFN was what it was. 2 tours in Iraq, and I began to really dislike the ads, especially the AFN promos. My tour in Korea really made me hate the AFN ads. AFN pacific is like a really bad version of public access. The styro-foam cup ad is shining example of this. Hell, lets contract it like everything else. |

Korea, 1999-2000. Who remembers the Anthrax Ninja? Bad overdubbed sound to imitate 1970's Hong Kong martial arts movies, and this fat guy in a black ninja outfit dropping on you out of trees and whatnot if you missed a shot in your anthrax series. The Anthrax Ninja ETS'ed and went back to smoking lots of weed. I found that out from my date to the 2000 Army Birthday Ball who worked at AFKN. |

I'm actually surprised that no woman has raised an issue about the Navy's anti-virus spot. Its the one in black and white with a kind of private investigative office. He uses "baby" and "dame" in the spot. She's wearing a alutty dress. I've seen pornos start out like this. But seriously, in our hypersensitive military I cant believe they allowed this to get on... nevermind that its retarded.. 1930s set... internet? virus? WTF?
What kills me is when I see this spot come on and then the moronic Air Force speech about sexually abusing/harassing their "fellow airmen". And a hit on my own BOS (branch of service): The Army. In case you didn't know, you would if you watched AFN, this is the year of the NCO. I have no idea what it means (I am an NCO) and yet its our year. I didn't ge ta pay raise for that, a pat on the back, or even a handjob. But its the year of the NCO. I feel GREAT when I see other sergeants talking about how great it is being the most underpaid and over generalized person in the Army. Remember NCOs, your the backbone of the Army, just some vertebrae are severely damaged and others are lacking altogether then there are those who came up on some quota... not sure how we're a backbone but we are. We run this piece!!! No seriously, its the year of the NCO and that's special... like AFN special. |

During my last deployment, my roommate threw in a DVD of a show he recorded at home... and wanted to fast forward through the commercials. WTF? At that point, I was really jonsing for some real commercials. Fuck AFN. The same movies. A shitty schedule and, when TDY, the fucking channel channel never matches up to what is actually on! |

Fuck AFN.
When I was in Korea, we didn't get AFN Atlantic....all East coast college football games were on AFN Atlantic....like only West coast soldiers are stationed in Korea 
While deployed we didn't get TVs....went a year save for leave without looking at a TV screen
