I guess I'm used to it. When we mob'd in '03 at Drum I was shooting proned out on an ice slab in a howling windstorm and thinking nothing of it. Any place the trees are permanently at a lean is not meant for human habitation.

I spent my first 5 years in the Ary there. They say the only thing between Ft. Riley and the north pole is a fence, and it's down in places.

Here's some Ft. Riley history for you.

In the mid '80's Ft. Riley had such a bad reputation, the Penatagon sent an E8 to investigate why "Ft. Riley Sucks". Took im about a month and I saw the AAR he sent back to the pentagon.

His analysis was.......Every soldier on Ft. Riley from the CG down to the lowest ranking NCO was working for the guy above him not the soldiers below him. All the leaders were more worried about impressing their rater than training their soldiers for combat.

I suspect things are back to this now.

Gangs have started to really make a presence here.  As well, it's in the middle of nowhere with only Manhattan/K-State Uni. close by.
