Anyone know where I can get this patch?  MAACS only has the I MEF w/o the FWD part on it.

I want to ditch the other combat patch for this as we are only ADCON to that unit.

The "Fwd" designation for I MEF and II MEF is an administrative one that mainly concerns the way Marines do paperwork and account for who is deployed vice not.  While most of their command elements and forces were deployed, the MEFs were still responsible to train/equip/deploy their respective MEUs and other units, for example.

If it's going on an Army uniform, you should be GTG with the regular MEF patch.

Sadly that is not the case.  On the I MEF (FWD) patch there is the (FWD) desination below teh eagle and a Roman numberal I above it.  The letter from the MEF Commander to the Army, and the letter from the Army auhtorizing it is pretty specific.

Thanks for the explanation though.  And thanks for not giving me the "you are not authorized" to wear it.

I have told all my young enlisted they will need to carry a copy of the orders with them until they make at least SSG beucase people will be telling them to take off the patch.

Really?    So you've actually seen a MEF(Fwd) patch, not just the logo on paper or a computer?

As for people telling you that you can't wear it, tell them to STFU.  The word should be out by now; when I landed in Kuwait I did a double-take at a 1st Mar Div patch the first time I saw one on a set of DCUs but that was Feb 2005.

If a Marine questions it, reprimand him for not knowing his Marine Corps history (they hate that) and tell him to read up on 2d ID and 6th Marines.

Our unit is authorized II MEF(FWD) patches, and there's a shitload of guys with them on their ACU's, so I'm guessing it's just a matter of finding the vendor who has them.

This is somewhat OT, but it's total bullshit that former Marines who are now in the Army can't wear combat patches from Marine units they served with, but Army guys who were attached to Marine units can.

Got a picture of that?  I'd like to see what the II MEF (fwd) ones look like.  I have a "novelty" full color II MEF patch, but I've never seen an ACU or other camo one.  Do they have IR ones too?

MAACS has them:

http://www.maacs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?

Look in the "Marine Expeditionary Forces" section on the front page, with the specials.

I don't know if anyone makes IR ones, but I guess it's just a matter of time.

Never seen that design before, with just the "II Fwd" and not MEF anywhere.  Interesting.

The 1st and 2d Marine Division ones were much more prevalent.

Sorry, dumb Army-guy question...

How big of an element is a MEF?   Brigade-size?

They tell me its Corps sized but the they are deploying FWD elements to act as Division HQ; all the other parts of MNC-I are run by Army Divisions exceot the south which is the multi-national division.
