Will my US plug work or do I need to get a converter/adapter?

If your electronic devices can handle 220V you only need adapters if not then you need a converter. But, there are so many variables will you be running off the grid or generators?

If you are going to an established facility, then I would take a couple plug adapters to get you going right away. Most PX facilities will have any converters or adapters you may need.

You will have to buy the round prong adapters if its 220-240v like a laptop or PSP.

If its 110v, then you'll have to buy the convertor for it to work or *POOF*.

Yeah I found this out the hard way.  Apparently the adaptor wasn;t enough for my desklamp that I had clipped onto the headboard of my bunk, and one night the damn bulb just exploded all over me and my bed, right next to my head.  Luckily I have short hair or else I might have recreated Michael Jackson's Pepsi commercial experience.  It was wild though, all of the glass fragments burned holes on the sheets wherever they landed.  The funny thing is that when it happened, I was half asleep, and thought there was a real explosion for a second.

One more consideration: If you plan to run something small for a short time, like charging a razor or your laptop, the small inverter you can get here at walmart is fine.  However if you want to run something longer/ permenant or more draw you meed a big inverter.  Buy one at the bigger FOBs in country off an outbound Marine or Soldier.  Or at the PX or Haji PX.  The bigger ones cost about $70-150 and are worth it.  Keep in mind if you buy it at the PX and it blows you can try to take it back and the chances are greater they will hook you up.  Good luck and Semper Fi.  Remember, if it's on the side of the road and worth anything, it's an IED.

Any newer laptop will automaticly step down the power, no need for a converter for them.

Many of your other items step down too.  If it has a transformer/converter(whatever you call it) in the power cord somewhere (a box on the end with the plug or along the cord for laptops) look on the label.  If it only says 110v youneed the extra converter.  If it says 110/220v you're good to go. Yhen you just need a plug adaptor and they are about $2 at the Haji PX.
