| Just got back from my fist night of R&R in Qatar. Went to the mall...amazing. Then went with my sponsor to the Sheridan and rubbed elbows with some real world millionaires. Anyone been here? Have three nights left. Please post your stories here. Little drunk in case you cant tell. Great time here....Can hardly belive that I was in a hot zone yesterday. |
| Well, my R&R is almost over and I am leaving tonight. If anyone is given the oppurtunity to come here I would do it. The only downside here is the heat and humidity. The day that we got here it was about 110 with 90% humidity. Sweating from every pore in your body just for the sake of sweating. The MWR offered a Desert Safari where you go out into the desert in Land Cruisers to the beach out in the middle of nowhere. They had a traditional Qatari meal in tents waiting there at the beach. It was amazing. There is also a mall here called the city center that is 4 stories tall with an ice rink in the bottom. Just like a mall in America. Our first night we went to the mall and then our sponsor took us to the Sheridan(Not suposed to go there) because only hotels here have bars(Thats why) and had some drinks. Half a bottle of JW black label to be exact. If you couldnt tell, my first post was shortly after that... Overall this has been a great break from the daily grind of the sandbox. |
| My trip was not near as fun as you're describing yours. I went to the mall and the gold market but my sponsor wasn't about to take us to a place that served alcohol. I did the same 4 day pass thing. I flew out of BIAP which turned out to be a solid 24 hours awake. Anyways It's goo to hear you enjoyed yours. |

was stationed at As Sayliah last summer. Fun place. IF you get a chance to head to the sealine resort, DO IT. Nothing like jetskiing in the persian gulf, or 4 wheeling in the desert. City Center mall in Doha is pretty cool too! Don't forget to hit up the Gold Souqs downtown. |
That's the overall kinda reaction I heard from guys returning from Qatar for most of our tour. I guess there was some fairly serious alcohol related incidents (Cav guys) early on and they restricted a lot of the freedoms. |

My first trip there we stayed at the Sheraton Doha, at about 0100 I heard a bunch of AK-47 fire outside my window, I thought all hell was breaking loose. Turned out it was a wedding party,,,, good times! The last time I was there we got in late and on the way to the hotel a bunch of kids were out driving their Toyota trucks on two wheels around the round-abouts,,, one guy went around about three times, kinda cool. Great place to visit, too bad you all could'nt drink!! |
