The location isn't certain just yet but the slot I'm filling will be there. I'm just as likely to be going elsewhere or spending a lot of time driving and flying around the area.

I'll be bouncing out there in the September/October time frame, but I think I'll be hitting some of the more southern points this time out - probably KAF, LNK, and who knows where else. I don't think I'll end up going through Bagram this time, but I'll let you know.

BAF is a basket of f@ck but it could always be worse. You could be stuck in MeS with chubby Germans in spandex and a nice Ft Irwin-esque breeze like the breath of hell.

I went through BAF a couple of months back and picked up an un-Afghaned Martini-Enfield Artillery Carbine for $60. In the next stall I had a guy try to sell me three of the Afghaned-up Cavalry Carbines for $120 for the lot. You've gotta bargain with them.

The guy I got the carbine from was a young guy on the left side as you enter the bazaar, about 2/3 of the way down. He has old helmets and crap out front. The guy who offered me the 3 for $120 deal was the big Kung fu Panda looking dude across the way from him towards the center of the V that the stalls make. He started pulling them out from under the table like it was a clown car.

Yep...Kung Fu Panda guy sold me an un-afghaned carbine as well for the same price. At the time there was hassle on getting them out, but last week I finally took it to legal, got the forms, then to customs, they looked at it and stamped my forms..didn't need my Form 6 after all.

We use tents because they come from a different budget than permanent construction, and allow us to say we're just here for a little while longer...the rest of the world laughs at our shredded tents and rotting plywood bhuts and spends less money for better quarters.

Nobody made you join. And before you wish that shit on anyone consider this; three of our Marines and one of our MWDs died in a fire on Lawton two months ago. So knock it the hell off with that talk unless you want to come out to the ramp to help carry the bodies this time.

Noted. My apologies for flying off the handle. It hit a little close to home. 31 July we lost Staff Sgt. Patrick R. Dolphin, Sgt. Dennis E. Kancler, Sgt. Christopher M. Wrinkle and his MWD, due to a fire. We lost most of that compound and had to re-kit the entire team. Then we dodged a big one when we lost the UAE SOF compound on 20 Aug. Fortunately they were all in a mission briefing when the rocket hit the messhall. The compound was a total loss. They're back up and running now. UAE has the $ to re-kit quickly and their folks are good, you can't keep them down.

The point is, don't wish for it because you just might get it.
