He has been beating around the bush with Lane Kiffin, and today he called him on the phone to tell him he is fired, and told him his contract won't be honored(means he won't have to pay him the rest of his contract). That is pretty chicken shit IMO.

Is it just me or is the old man as nutty as squirrel crap?

Al Davis is a complete loon.  At the news conference, he came across as some paranoid, crazy old fuck.

If Kiffen didn't have a guaranteed contract and was doing a shitty job I'd fire him without pay as well. No "golden parachutes" for failed business leadership or losing records.

Oh yeah, I agree that Al Davis is definitely a fucking nut case though.

Hell, Kippen didn't even have control of his own coaching staff.

Remember Mike Shanahan?

If he didn't know that going in he was a fool. Every Raider coach has been a Davis puppet for as long as I can remember - not 100% sure about Madden or Flores though.

I was more referring to the fact that Davis called him to tell him was the chicken shit thing. The money is a pretty crappy thing to do but the calling to fire him was not right.

I think Kiffin was doing pretty damn good for what he had. The fact that he has gotten his team to play hard in extremely close games is a testiment to him, considering Davis tried to get rid of him since early this year.

Plus a look at all those underachievers he has had. Deangelo Hall has not accomplished anything since cashing in. For being the second coming of Deion, he sure can't cover anyone out in Oakland.

I really wonder who the hell would accept that job after Cable can't pull this seaon out of the crapper.

Okay, you are right.  That makes it just fine for Davis to show a total lack of class, character, or integrity.

I believe that Kiffen did have a guaranteed contract if he is fired for any other reason than for cause.  This is typical of pretty much any NFL head coaching contract I believe and that is the reason that if a team fires a coach for poor results, the coach will continue to get paid.

What AL Davis and the Raiders are trying to do, from what I hear, is say that Kiffen was fired for cause because of the alleged complaining about the personnel acquisitions, lying, dishonesty, and other reasons and not simply because Al Davis is insane.  This is exactly what he tried to do to Mike Shannahan.

Al Davis is the worst thing for that team right now and will keep it from having any success while he is still there.  It is true that he has had success in the past, but he is not willing to give up any power and can't attract a good head coach or talented personnel people.  The player evaluation system that they use there is seriously flawed and results in them making baffling decisions that make the team worse year after year.  The team is so dysfunctional that either the top free agents do not want to go there or the free agents that do go there have to be so grossly overpaid that they hurt the team's flexibility for years to come.  Until someone can come in and provide consistent and steady direction, the team will continue to be like this.

Al Davis is a senile old loon that needs to sell the team and retire to some home where they can wipe away his drool.
