Despite the feelings of many, golf is cool.

It's just another way of launching a projectile down range, figuring in the windage and elevation, of course.

Last summer at our range a friend was shooting at a target he posted in the woods. Our range is cleared  out to 100 yards with a hill behind it. I asked how far the target was.

"I don't know, I just went as deep as I could and still get a clear shot."

I made a visual estimate, pulled out three old golf balls and a 4-iron and whacked them at the target. I said, "It's about 173 yards." (It's a big hill, give me break on club selection/yardage)
The next week he shot it with a laser rangefinder...169 yards.

Golf balls make great 100yard targets too. Use some paracord and piece of duct tape and hang them off a tree branch.

I usually shoot a 40.
On the first four holes.  At which point, I call it a day.
And seriously, I would never play golf until I'm so old I can't manage to spend a day firing a N.M. course.

Golf is one of my other passions. I have been playing since I was two years old when my grandfather started taking me along with him.
It's VERY addictive and expensive....kinda like shooting, cars, ATV's, etc....[:D]
Here in Arizona, it's a year round golf wonderland. Some of the best courses in the world and lots of them !!

I love golf!  Can't get enough but it so expensive around here I don't get out much anymore.

Suprisingly, I find myself with better depth perception and ranging skills during the summer months while playing golf.  It seems to keep my "built-in" rangefinder in tip top shape.  Especially at the crappy muni courses where the yardage markers could mean "from there to the tool shed" or "from here to the third highest branch" or whatever.

Golf must be hugely important.

I just noticed when checking the forecast on weather.com that they also have a golf forecast!!!

Surprisingly enough....Golf conditions tomorrow in Northern Vermont are supposed to be "Poor"......Imagine that

I can't see hitting and chasing a little white ball around someone else's lawn.

Having spent $163,456 on various clubs that either got hurled into water holes, wrapped around trees, or used to beat various Caddy types totally senseless, I decided to shoot sevice rifle instead.

Since that time, about the worst thing I have ever said over a missed shot was the time I muttered a single, disappointed 'dammit'.

(Although one time I put a piece of copper tubing in an old m-14 stock and hid it under my mat. When I saw my prone rapid score, I pulled it out, beat it around and threw it downrange while screaming near-obscenities. ((all weapons were secure at this time))The whole firing line went into shock, except the RO, who was onto it. When everyone looked at the RO, expecting him to 86 me, he just looked at everyone and told them: "He told his wife he was playing golf this morning." The whole line cracked up.)

edited to add: So it wasn't really $163,456, but what's a couple hundred grand among friends?

piccolo, that is hilarious.  I can totally relate...  the worst day of shooting is better than the best day of work (or golf, that is).  you get to camp perry ever?

I love golf.  Frustrating game at times, but it can help teach you patience.  SPECTRE, I was in Scottsdale just last week; wish I had my sticks with me.  We couldn't walk 50 yards without stumbling onto another course.

Thought I'd resurrect this poll for Sunday.

In retrospect, I should have included only two responses - Golf is cool, and I possess neither the physical skill nor the mental capacity for golf.

Clearly anyone who says golf sucks has never felt the Zen, the effortless power, of a well executed shot.

For the non-golfers. Have you ever had one of those experiences when shooting? You can't miss, one ragged hole, perfect trigger control. And yet you can't really identify the particulars. Why today? What's different? Golf is the same. Every shot is filled with that potential for effortless perfect execution. That's why golf is addictive.

I used to be down to a 4 handicap but a few years ago I was injured and now can only hold about a 10 or 11.

Golf is a great way to relax if you do it right.

So if Golf is a sport then how come this post isn't in the SPORTS FORUM (like where my Raiders posts went).

It just never clicked for me and I decided I would prefer to spend my money other places.

It is also very tough on your body especially your back, a lot of un-natural acts.
