Rockies and Carlos Gonzalez agree to 7 year/80MM dollar deal.

My favorite CarGo moment of 2010, as viewed with my Chicago Cubs fan girlfriend at the park: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10488817 The Rockies have had a couple big contracts / extensions lately. They have committed to over 260 million this off season. That's not chump change for this organization for sure. The Tulo contract was huge, and not in just dollar terms. Without the Tulo extension, De La Rosa may have not resigned, CarGo may have not resigned. There had to be quite a bit of pushing from CarGo to get a deal done, especially considering Scott Boras was his agent. Rox have told Ubaldo they will re-work his extremely team friendly deal after next season. I am glad they are taking risks on these guys. To me, it shows a commitment to winning, which has always been a question posed to ownership here in Colorado. They still have a ways to go. Chacin will have to continue to develop at a rapid pace (2.98 ERA as a starter last year), Ubaldo must be more consistent, De La Rosa will have to avoid injury. I'd have liked it if they would work hard to acquire an impact arm sometime in the next year. |

I have criticised the Monforts for years but it looks like they are finally stepping up. We should have good baseball in Denver for the next decade! The Broncos and Nuggets are another story though... At least still have some hope for the Nuggets. |

Napoli to the Rangers. He will hit 25-30 bombs. I'll only be happy if he can hit above .270 though. Does this mean Young will be traded? Doesn't really seem like there is a spot for him anymore. I think the plan is to have Young DH since Vlad is gone. |

I realize TX has said they are not going to trade Young, but sometimes where there is smoke there is fire. Not sure that TX wants to pay Young 16MM a season for the next three years to DH/Utility man. The actions of the club appear that they will try and trade him, but of course, that is just my opinion. Vlad didn't sign, and Young could be a formidable DH. I personally believe that moving Young would be a bad move for TX. All that being said, I think there is about a 35% chance Young remains in Texas this year. |

Baltimore offered him between $4.5 and 5 mil, and he claims he wasn't happy with that offer. If Texas offered him $8mm, why hasn't he taken it? |

I can't find any links, but I was almost certain I heard he was made an offer by Texas. I can't recall where I heard it. I monitor the trade/FA markets daily. After doing a search, I believe I was mistaken. My apologies. |

He obviously isn't happy with our offer, and I don't want an unhappy player playing for this team. His bat would be a great addition though. I'm just ready for this saga of the offseason to be over, if he comes that's fine. But if he doesn't want to, that's fine too.

Young on the move? Rumors regarding him resurfaced today. Highly doubt Young is in Texas this year. Not sure where he will land, Rockies are most likely candidate, not sure how I feel about that. IMO, the Rangers have hosed themselves with this off season in regards to Michael Young. |
|
Quoted: Rosenthal is reporting that one source is saying talks between Rangers and Rockies over Young are at an advanced stage right now. I can't say I'm surprised. A year or so ago I was of the understanding that he was on the block as a veteran player they could afford to lose. I honestly thought getting Napoli was a nail in Young's Rangers coffin.

I don't care who they added, they have basically disenfranchised their franchise player. Unless they make a repeat trip to the World Series, or Michael Young seriously under performs wherever he lands, there will be quite a bit of negativity towards the front office. Disappointing for one of my favorite AL teams. |

Are the Cards gonna get AP signed for life or who thinks he will be a free agent and test the market next offseason. Pujols wants to play for a Championship caliber team more than anything. He wants another ring more than he wants more money. Im not sure the Cards can do it for him.
Jim Edmonds signed a minor league deal with StL though. |

Texas will likely have to eat more an more salary as we approach May, when his 10-5 rights kick in. I doubt it will go that far though. Rock meet hard place for Texas. |

What is your impression of Young and the Rangers front office? I really don't know what to think yet. We are still in the honey moon phase with Nolan and the front office. I've heard different stories as to which side is to blame for the Young drama but I don't think it sits well with any Ranger fan. Losing Young to Ranger fans would be like the Yankees losing Jeter to their fans. He's been the face of the franchise for quite some time and has been through the ups and downs. I think he deserves better than what he's getting right now. |

To me, he's been the rock of our team through thick and thin, but when you say "yeah im good with being a DH" which is what he said when Beltre was signed, then I'm holding you to that statement.
But then, AFTER VLAD IS GONE TO THE O's, he decides he wants to get his panties in a wad. Oh well dude, I was your biggest supporter when they were moving you around, but now you've showed your ass. Still love em, but that was a stupid move. If he had requested a trade, we could've sent him somewhere where he could play everyday, and we could've given Vlad more money. NO, he waits until every team has their rosters pretty much set and Vlad is gone. ETA: on the flip-side, if a deal doesn't happen, and it looks like it wont, I have no doubt he will play hard and be a valuable part of our team. |

Wainos injury is pretty devastating. Unless someone comes out of nowhere (like Wainright did) they have no chance this year. Not good for the Pujols situation either. Edmunds officially retired last week too. I liked him more than Pujols, he wasnt as good but there was just something about him that will endure him in my heart as one of my favorite Redbirds of all time. Nobody looked as good in the 2000's wearing the Birds on the Bat like Jimmy Ballgame. |

Yeah, tough luck for the Cards. Especially in a division where everyone has gotten a bit better.
And IMO, damn the torpedoes, this off season, make Pujols a Cardinal for the rest of his career. If frickin Jayson Werth can get the money he got from the Nats, there ain't no excuse for St. Louis to not make this happen with Pujols. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Help is coming for the Royals. It's gonna be an ugly 2011 for sure, but good god, the Royals farm system is *loaded.* Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Those farm systems pay off eventually. The Rangers might not be completely homegrown, but its safe to say we wouldn't be where we are today if not for our minor league buildup over the years. John Daniels is a genius. The Teixiera(dick) trade was an amazing deal. |
