Thinking about upgrading to snow leopard, but after seeing the reviews on apple.com I am not so sure, anyone have any experience with the upgrade?

I upgraded soon after the initial release.  The OS is faster and smaller (I recovered 4GB of disk space after install), and works fine.  What problems are you reading about?

I posted this from a Windows 7 machine.

I've been using it since it was released with zero problems.

Runs fine on the few people that have macs here.

I run both windows and mac machines.  (ar15.com motto, Get Both!)

My concern came up when the actual apple website reviews have it at 3/5 stars.

My advice would be for you to take stock of your peripherals and any "odd" software, then search around on Google to see if there are any issues with Snow Leopard and your stuff.  I have a mishmash of hardware here (non-apple NAS, printers attached to print servers that 'shouldn't' work with MacOS, etc) and there was NO hassle going from 10.5 to 10.6.  YMMV, and good luck!

I will be attempting this as well in the next two days. Still backing up my machine and consolidating serial numbers and installers in case of disaster.

Standard OS upgrade issues with old hardware...

But it's a cleaner OS, and IIRC is full 64 bit now....

The finder is now 64bit cocoa.

I've been using it since it was released.  It runs fine.  I love it.

There were a few issues at first but those have been patched.

I've had no issues, I've got it running on 2 imacs, a macbook, a mac mini, and my netbook.

My Mac Mini was a straight upgrade from Leopard. No issues with - and I've been using it since it came out...

Runs fine, seems to be a little faster than Leopard but not an earth-shattering difference.   There were a few issues with software when it came out, but pretty much everyone has updated their stuff to make it compatible.  The only thing I have heard about lately is some older peripherals not having drivers available, so check your printers, scanners, etc on the internet as mentioned earlier.

What I have seen:

Slower to start up, but quicker to shutdown (not really what I wanted).

Broke some stuff related to VMWare Fusion. An update to Fusion fixed some of it, but not all.
