So I'm kicking around the idea of setting up a NAS box for a home server, using ZFS
(just because it looks neato) running on Open Solaris, and I'm looking around for a
box.

I'd like it to be relatively low power, and quiet, since it's going to be sitting in my living room
and I don't want a wind tunnel.

ZFS works better with 64 bit CPUs and a bunch of RAM. You don't really need a lot of
CPU cycles. Don't care about graphics. Gigabit ethernet port. I want a bunch of SATA
or eSATA ports. The ideal would be some micro-ATX or mini-ITX box with a lot of eSATA
ports I can plug into an external eSATA rack stuffed full of five or six drives.

Can anyone recommend a mobo or box that does this, or a screwdriver shop
with a web interface I can configure this at?

There are lots of neat little home media boxes that you can build yourself.

If you're still tinkering the idea.. take a look at HP's Media Smart Home server.   Not a lot of money and you get a lot of features in a ready-to-go package.

My only worry about this would be having a power disruption.

ZFS tries to access disks as little as possible by keeping as much data in the RAM as possible.  Power goes, RAM goes, data goes.
