so here at Aim, i have a problem desk, every PC i put there goes ape at some point or another, average lifespan is like a year.    So i just bought a powerspec quad core for that spot, its been there a few weeks and now its get buggy.    On start up it hangs in establishing network connections and never starts up, but if you start in last known good config it will start up, then at 5:30 everyday, it goes nutty again.   I think the desk is cursed.

Bad - you must have a warranty - send it away!

You probably have a flaky power connection at that desk.

Try putting an uninterruptable power supply at that location, preferably a good one with sine wave regeneration.  It won't repair a computer with corrupted data/operating system or damaged hardware, but if you try it with a new computer I'll bet it will resolve your "curse".

Bad power. Put a UPS with power conditioning there.

Is there a certain employee that uses that PC?

Hanging at startup or not starting up correctly could be from turning off your PC incorrectly, currupting data.

Get THIS Install everything you need on the PC, and the program, then make a complete image of the harddrive the operating system is installed on. Then always keep a backup of necessary files. Then if your PC starts acting up, restore the image of the harddrive through the acronis program, and it will be exactly like the day you made the image, so if you make the image as soon as you get the PC it will be like brand new. Plus the loading of the image only takes about 10 minutes and is completely automated.

Sounds like a classic case of operator malfunction to me. I would inspect the habits of whoever uses it most frequently, and if you're not already, shut it down properly and completely every night.

Is maintenance turning the lights off or on at 5:30, or something?

I was thinking some big machine turning on and creating a voltage lag or fluctuations that wouldn't be large enough to trigger a non-conditioning UPS.  Or electrical noise, or a floating neutral, or....

have you tried another port on the router/ switch?  replaced the cable going to the wall?   crinks in cables can cause crazy problems

i have not moved it in the switch, but it was in another wall port which would have a different switch port and still did it, i wonder if its still a network card issue
