I am using the download bundle from torproject with FF, Vidalia, Tor, and Popilo.  It seems that at least 75% of the tor sites I try to go to I get a 504 error, something to do with SOCKS.  What can I do, or is this normal with tor?

you may have tor nodes that are constantly dropping.  If that is the case, your tor connection will be unreliable.  You may have to refresh the pages that you are wanting to visit a few times.

You are connected to 3 nodes at a time.  If one of them goes down, so do you.  Tor then tries to re-establish 3 more nodes for you.

It is a slow process, but the anonymity is great.  Just dont use it to log into anything of an account....such as ar15, your bank, or email.  The exit node can see this information if they choose to do so.
