So somewhere along the line I picked up AV Antispyware. An internet search revealed it's a rogue program, not what it claims to be. Anyway, this thing is a giant PITA, with pop-ups every 10 seconds, closing me internet explorer, etc. I searched online and downloaded Spyware Doctor, from a website that said it would fix it. Cost $29.99, and the damn thing works for everything except the AV.
Can anyone help me get rid of this thing? I'm about to punt the computer out the window. |

Download and install Malwarebytes from the link below:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol The download is spyware free and from CNet's download.com site. Install malwarebytes and at the last prompt make sure that the Update Malwarebytes and Launch Malwarebytes checkboxes are selected. Once updated and launched, perform a quickscan, when it finishes scanning it will return a list of all entries it has found as spyware. Check through to make sure it didn't flag something as a false positive (a KNOWN good program being listed as bad, rare but it might happen). If you aren't sure about a program post back here about it. Normally it is pretty good about only flagging bad items. Once you have confirmed that all the items in the list are bad items, hit "Remove Selected" and allow Malwarebytes to delete everything. This should rid the computer of AV Antispyware. If you have any issues post what errors or problems you might have. (Sometimes certain programs will block the Malwarebytes executable, though I don't believe this is one of them.) Hope this helps! |

THIS!! Turn off system restore before you run Malwarebytes and update the software. Stop using Windows explorer, Firefox is so much safer. |

Thanks. And I agree about Malwarebytes, just wish I would have found it sooner than I did. |
