iMac 1.83G Dual core

CPU 42*
GPU diode 69*
mem control 46*
HD 47*
opt drive 36*
fan speed 999rpm
ambient 26*

Does that seem normal or is the diode a little hot? I know it probably needs a cleaning.

Is that from iStat? Those sound way low, are you sure that isn't in Celsius?

My unibody MBPro is running 110 degrees Fahrenheit ; at the CPU, 103 degrees Fahrenheit at the GPU and the GPU Heatsink is 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

Or about 45, 40, and 40 degrees celsius roughly.

That is Celsius. Those temps look like they are within specification, I don't know if they are hot for a Mac tho. I don't do macs. gpu seems slightly high.

Are these load temps? Idle temps? How long at idle?

Didn't notice the ambient reading. Safe temperature for the Core 2 duo is something like 150 degrees fahrenheit, I guess thats around 65 degrees celsius right? The GPU I'm not sure, but its probably around the same. Is that the temp reading while its sitting or while playing a movie or rendering graphics or something GPU load heavy?

Run the Apple Hardware Test and see if anything comes up, in the meantime you could install one of the fan control apps and increase your cooling (noise).

OK, I installed the fan speed app and upped the speeds to 1500 rpm across the board, temps have gone down a couple degrees. All I've been doing is surfing the web for a few hours, so the computer is not highly taxed. CPU usage below 25%.

How high can i run the fan without blowing it up?

ETA: I've upped the speeds to 1800 rpm and I can barely hear the fans.

Temps:

cpu 34
gpu 56
mem 39
hd 38
opt 32

I doubt the fans can run so high that they bust, but running them too high for too long can wear them out prematurely. The nice thing about the app is that you are just setting the minimums, it will still increase when stuff gets too hot.

If you can't hear the fans running, its probably not too much to worry about.

Plus, if a fan goes, its way cheaper and easier to replace than the GPU!
